Find Care & Housing
Hi Benny2008. If you can fill in your profile, it will help the community better help you out. I'm going to speak generically, based on what seems common.

If your wife has a dementia/Alzheimer's diagnosis, there can be urinary and bowel incontinence. It just depends on what part of the brain has died. It will not get better and would not be isolated to just at night. But there are also other possibilities.

Take her to the doctor to have her urine checked in the lab for an infection. That is typically easy to treat and might help her incontinence situation.

Since you say it's at night specifically, I have to assume it's not happening in the daytime. Make sure she empties her bladder before bed and stop liquids a couple hours before bedtime. Have her sleep in adult disposable briefs, on a bed pad. I used the "Good Nights" brand with my mom until my order of a mega-pack could come in the mail from a medical supply place.

Make sure you protect the mattress with a plastic mattress cover as well, and wipe it down with Lysol or Clorox wipes every time it gets wet.

I hope this helps you. Please let us know how it's going!!

Benny, my boss' wife had Alzheimer's and I remember him telling me that sadly it was almost a nightly thing with her.... he had to go one step further and put her into the shower to clean her up before putting on fresh night clothes... plus put the sheets into the washer.

Mom had dementia. She wore Depends briefs to bed and slept in a snap-up-the-front housecoat. New one every morning. The briefs kept the bed dry.
