My FIL is being shuffled around in pain at his rehab all due to the Drs lack of knowing protocol! He has four fractured vertebra and has been in rehab two weeks....now they decided he needs a Kyphoplasty but needs an MRI first...they transported him to the ER at the hospital only to find out four hours later THEY DONT DO MRI's that way.....you have to be admitted to the hospital! So back to rehab he went! Now today we are waiting to see WHERE he will go for the MRI so he can get the Kyphoplasty finally done! Meanwhile he is declining and yesterday didn't help!
"Shuffled around" is a good description. Often in a facility the right hand doesn't know what the left hand is doing. When my dad was in a NH and was still having procedures for his liver disease I would get the information and then call to confirm it myself. I learned to do this after experiencing what you're experiencing. At times there were instructions that didn't get passed along to me (no eating 12 hours prior; discontinue blood thinner, etc) and we'd have to reschedule. It drove me nuts. So I just took the bull by the horns and called myself after the NH scheduled an appointment.
You can speak to your Ombudsman about this but you are your FIL's advocate too. My dad was a big guy and had incontinence of bowel so anytime I had to take him anywhere I'd check and double check where we were going, where the wheelchairs were, expected wait time, etc. Try to prepare as much as you can when taking your FIL out. It'll be less stress for both of you.
