Sorry, VA does not provide benefits to divorcees. Help with meds? She should apply to Medicaid if she has trouble making ends meet.

Unmarried divorcees can get spousal benefits on their ex-husband's Social Security; it's up to her to find out if he's getting benefits. It doesn't cost him any extra, so there's no logical reason for him to not cooperate.

Yes, I'm surprised she got SSI when she was married that long to her husband. She should have gotten half of his SS unless it was less than the SSI. Usually SSI and medicaid go hand in hand.

Rita, if ur Mom is on SSI she should be able to get help with her meds. If under a certain amount of income will not habe to pay any premiums. You need to contact her contact for SSI and ask why she isn't getting help. She may be able to get help with housing and food. May get an aid. If they can't help try office of the aging.

I am a disabled retired Vet and my mom is my caregiver and now she has had a stroke. My sister will be taking care of us. My mom is the surviving spouse of a vet and 77 years old and on Social Security. Is there any help for our caregiver?

If the Vet was in during a war or conflict he maybe able to get Aid and Assistance thru the VA. Spouses can receive too. First, call ur local VFW and see if they have an officer willing to come to ur home and explain how it works. Have all discharges and death certificates available. If this isn't an option then call the VA.
