My mother brings home $30 more a month than the Medicaid guidelines in NC though we haven't yet talked with a Medicaid case worker. She only has enough money for about 6 months for private pay in a memory facility. What do we do???

Although NC doesn't have Miller trusts, she would qualify for LTC Medicaid if her medical costs exceed her income. So when her money runs out paying for the MC facility she would transition to LTC Medicaid. If the current facility doesn't take Medicaid she may have to move to another one that does. If that's the case that the social worker at the facility should help find a suitable place and transition. Just make sure you don't take her home with you.

It is complicated in NC.  When your income goes over the limit, they can adjust income by medical expenses.   Talk to a case worker or facility business office.

You need to find out if Medicaid will pay for a Memeory Care facility in North Carolina.

You need to find out if mom can create a Miller Trust to offset the excess income or if she can do a "spend down" to Medicaid eligibility.
