You might want to put a small sign (2 inch by 3 inch) next to the lock or on the window that states "Please keep window closed at all times." as a reminder to ALL people that you want the window to remain closed--in case the resident asked someone else to open the locked window.

Are the windows sliders or double hung? Stops can be installed to allow the windows to open enough to allow fresh air in. A window canopy may be able to be installed to stop the snow.

Living in my home-making sure it isn’t against their rights before I actually lock it. Believe it or not-these residents have more rights then u would think

Yes, I understand what you’re saying. But, you also have rights in your own home. Locking a window could be considered a safety measure if it’s ever questioned. Keeping the resident from climbing out or someone from climbing in. You have a right to prevent damage to your home. And opening a window in nasty weather could cause the resident to become very ill. So, I wouldn’t worry about it.

Why would it be illegal? It’s not like the resident is being locked in their room with no means of escape in an emergency. Are you asking because your loved one is in Assisted Living and you disagree with this practice or is “the resident” living in your home?
