Find Care & Housing
Basically SS works like a job, you are paid after the work is done.

So its now August but the payment I receive this month is for July. They should not claw that back if I die in the Month of August. Lets say I died July 31st. The August payment will be clawed back because its July payment. Since I died in August, I should not receive Septembers payment and if I do, it will be clawed back.

It has happened that a payment is clawed back too early. Thats when you call SS to get it fixed.

Here is an AARP article explaining how social security claws back any check a person received when they didn’t live for the entire month for which it was paid.
