Dad is 86 years old and is continuously browsing friends and family posts and leaving annoying or humiliating comments. While not necessarily been threatening, doing this constantly seems to me as an obsessive or dementia behavior. It is causing my mother great emotional distress. When we visit him all he talks about is what he has seen or read in facebook, even from people I had never met. He even gets angry when the computer doesn’t work. I let him know some comments are hurting his loved ones, and it’s becoming his building an anti-social network, but he doesn’t care. I closed my own account and other relatives have blocked him because of his constant monitoring. I told my other sibling which lives in other state, but he is not so supportive. And believe me, dad is never interested in any leisure activity.

I agree with what ismiami wrote. If he writes embarrassing things on your messages, you can delete the comments. You can also make FB groups, so your messages will only go out to certain people. You can also make your father an acquaintance. That way he gets public messages from you, but not messages to friends.

Personally, all of my FB friends are in groups. I wouldn't want family to read some of the things I write in my politics group, and I would want all my friends to get shop advertisements. So I group people. If there are people I don't want to unfriend, but don't want them to read of comment, I put them as acquaintances.

Can you get into your dad's account and unfriend all of your relatives? He'd have to ask them to re-friend him in order for him to be able to comment on their posts. He could possibly still see their posts, depending on their privacy settings, but I think he could only post on their stuff if he's a friend. That's where I'd start.

Kudos to dad on being 86 and FBI saavy, the relatives that are bothered by it can block him...it may be embarrassing, but compared to other obsessive behaviors like aggression it is fairly mild......apologize and explain tote relatives you care about.

There should be no excuses made, no matter what his age is. People should block him and report the post to Facebook. The admins will then boot him off.
