Mother-in-law has dimentia/Alzheimers. She loves her son but hates me and my daughter.  I'm so tired and stressed and sad. Any Help? I don't know how to cope with her being so mean. She's awful. She thinks I'm in her house and is always telling my husband she wants my daughter and me out. I just need to know if there is anyone out there going through this? I find myself arguing and hating her so much. I feel guilty. Can't take it anymore.

Curious how is your husband dealing with this, or is he just ignoring the situation?

Did this hate started after Mom-in-law developed Dementia/Alzheimer's, or had she been that way from the first day you met her?

So stay away, don't bother with her. Not your circus. Not your monkeys.

Sounds like she lives with you? Is your daughter also your husbands, or yours from a prior relationship. So you get a group discount on the dislike? I also wonder what hubs is doing? If she is really confused, just tell her OK, we'll leave tomorrow ( or next week) and maybe you will get a few hours peace. But probably not...

Is this a recent switch for her? If so, it's a change in mental status and could signal a UTI or a further decline. In any event, it needs to be reported to her doctor.

And yes, where is your husband is all this? You and your daughter deserve some peace in your own home. She made need meds to address her agitation, or placement in a facility; she may need a higher level of care that can be safely provided at home.

I would not discount the effect that this is having on your or your child's mental health. And of course, your child ALWAYS comes first in a situation like this.

Wow.... sounds like my life.. But as a caregiver for my MIL for the past 8 years (no break unless she's in the hospital) I know it can be hard. My MIL was a hard, hard woman before the 2 strokes and 50+ TIA's.. She's only gotten meaner. You can't let it get to you, I know it's very hard to deal with. My coping devise is alot of walking out in the yard and deep breathes. Go back inside like nothing happened, start the day back over. My husband takes the evening shift and we tak care of her jointly on the weekends.
