My 94 mother has no control over her pooping. She sh$ts in the bed, and I have to clean up an actual large volume of sh$t. She wears a diaper, but that doesn't do anything. It is all over her, her diaper, her nightgown, the sheets, etc. I am at my wits end. She has no knowledge that she is going to the bathroom and does not seem to be able to go like a normal person. It is always loose stools. She does not have dementia, yet she is unable to control herself. I would like to get rubber pants, like they had for babies years ago. I have a pad on the bed, but she is the problem and I can't stand her.
Your mother deserves at her age to be taken care of by someone who can stand her, and if that's not you, then do your mother a favor and get her placed ASAP.
And if money is the issue, she can apply for Medicaid.
The usual advice is:
Aim to CURE - if not possible, aim to CONTAIN.
What does Mom's Doctor say about the ongoing loose stools & lack of control?
Is there a continence health nurse or service/hotline to advice re products? Plastic/rubber pants will increase moisture & destroy skin integrity very quickly. I'd stay well away from those!
"but she is the problem and I can't stand her".
Yikes! Time for change then. Tell Mom's Doctor, arrange a needs assessment & arrange placement.
Anything related to poop and I’m done. Sounds like you are too. She needs memory care. They can handle the poop and tend to her more frequently.
