My mom has told me she is afraid of her, and she is under investigation for misuse of mom's SSI benefits, won't take her to medical appointments, and my mom has been having more bruising on her body. They allowed her to even answer for mom at times.

I was reported to APS by my twisted sisters for financial exploitation. You have not said how long ago you reported. Of course, there was nothing going on where I was doing any sort of abuse financially or otherwise. When the investigator left the house that day he apologized and told me the reports were nothing but vindictiveness and spite and that wished he had more calls like that. These investigators see crazy families and all sorts of abuse on the incapacitated all the time.

They have many serious cases that need immediate attention. It took about three months to close the investigation because of serious allegations that were true and required immediate attention. Twisteds were very angry with the outcome so continued their pursuit of me in the courts with a guardian and conservator appointed by the court for full audit of financials and care quality. Even with pros checking in on the situation regularly, no problems were identified.

Try not to get as determined as my twisteds were. They came out looking like fools after spending about 125K of mom's money. It is very hard to be the one on the outside looking in, something that those that do not provide the care will ever understand. There will always be something they do not agree with and suspect something just is not right. But, that is not at all always the case.

Hestersue, sometimes APS gets it wrong. So you have to send a letter that addresses your concerns and ask them to please send seasoned investigators to protect your mom. Make sure and make it very clear that she is afraid of your sister and they might as well not come out if they won't interview them separately.

I truly hope for your moms sake that they get to the truth and protect her. I am so sorry that she is going through this stuff at the end of her journey.

How do you know sister answered for Mom. I would think they would have been questioned separately in different rooms. If sister did answer, the caseworker may not have really listened. I meant, why would u allow the abuser to answer for Mom. It defeats the whole purpose of the investigation.

Elders get bruising. I am one. I know. At 78 I bruise very easily.
You have made a few posts now. HesterSue, I believe you are the one who made the report to Adult Protective Services? They will have your report and yes, they will investigate, and part of that investigation is to speak with Sister, to ask to see her records of SSI expenditures. To visit the home, to interview your Mom alone, and your Sister alone.
I am afraid that without your Sister's side of things none of us can know what the situation really is at all, or even make a wild guess.
If you have reported physical and financial abuse this will now be investigated. You will have to accept the outcome. I think, if you do not, you will not be allowed to visit your Sister as she cares for your Mom. Try to be supportive. Sibling wars never go anywhere. Your Sister has taken on a monumental job. Offer her respite, shopping, cleaning, whatever you can help with and watch how much better things will get, would be my guess.

The caregiver is also interviewed during an investigation. May be answering some of the same questions mom is asked. Normal process. Was it you that reported to APS?

The process takes time. And frequency of caregiver answering for mom would also be a consideration in any findings.
