My dad is retired vet and he informed my mom that all his bills would be covered by the military/Medicaid. We are both ill-informed about what they might cover. He is currently in a specialized hospital for his throat cancer. Will all this still be covered if he is there for a few months? I assumed not but like I said, I'm ignorant on the matter.

Also, if your dad served even a single day of active duty during any war time, there are additional benefits available to him.

Dionzo, I don't have time tonight to look up the links but perhaps tomorrow I can check my database of VA sites and post some links for you.

Dad doesn't have Tricare, just the basic medical as well as Medicare and Medigap coverage, so that makes a difference in what's available as well. VA care is very complicated!

I don't know anything about limit caps; I'm still struggling to figure out how to get home care.

Does your farther have any service connected disabilities? That would make a difference in what he can get as well.

Thanks that was on my plans on contacting a va officer and he is in florida. Just was hoping that someone might have gone through some similar experiences but it would make sense not everywhere is the same . Spent some time looking through his previous bills and it looks like 90% was paid/adjusted off by tricare so that gots my mom a little less stressed but still a little worried about the cost in a whole since I assume there has to be a limit cap.

Dionzo, it would be helpful if you could spend some time either with a VA rep, a local County VA service officer, or a service officer for the VA or American Legion to find out what could be available. We've used them to help us; they're very knowledgeable, helpful and do not charge anything as their services are free.

Your profile doesn't indicate where you are, so I couldn't do any searches to determine what VA facilities might be available in your area.

Apparently your father has applied for and will be getting medical care through the VA? Is he in a VA hospital or another hospital, such as a long term care hospital?

The VA has good information on its site, but you do have to spend some time sorting through the information and finding the services that apply to your father.

It's hard to give you answers w/o knowing more about his situation, but it's a better idea for you to talk with someone who's knowledgeable about what the VA provides, as it can be very complex.

But do check out this link for information here on this site:

If you indicate what state your father lives in, someone here might have information on Medicaid in that state.
