My 91 year old mother has continuous UTI's. The doctor gives her an antibiotic which seems to help for a week or two, then she gets another one. She is incontinent as well. Has anyone found a solution for UTI's and Incontinence in the elderly?

Mom was wiping from back to front, causing UTI’s. I watch over her making sure she does it correctly, or wipe for her. No problem since.

Please research and try D-Mannose supplement. This old retired RN doesn't even BELIEVE in supplements, but this simple capsule (comes in powder also) has made me over a decade UTI free after getting more than four a year. I have written so often about it I hestitate to go on (here on the forum) and have heard others here say same good results. If you need more info please Private message me.

This old not yet retired RN agrees with you about supplements. The body will only absorb what it needs Years ago when I was diagnosed with arthritis I asked my Ortho surgeon about glucosamine/costochondriosis (sp?)& he told me while it wouldn’t hurt it wouldn’t help much either.

Does your mother live with you? Does she wear disposable briefs? Are they changed frequently enough?

My mom has been wearing disposable briefs for four years. I change them 4-5 times a day, making sure I clean everything below the waist very thoroughly with each change. Her last UTI was six years ago (and that was before she started wearing the disposables).

Also, make sure your mother is drinking plenty of water... that helps to keep the urine from getting too concentrated. Many seniors don't hydrate enough.
