What symptoms is she having? Fever? Cold symptoms? The shots don't keep a person from getting covid. It went through my mom's AL this year and her unvaxxed experience was a very mild case and she took paxlovid. Are you nearby and can bring her things? I've read that most people that have a good vitamin D level which means they are taking a supplement this time of year, fare better than those that are deficient. Vitamin C is another good one. If she doesn't already take these, they would need a doctor's order to start them. You could ask her doctor to do so. Rest and fluids. This virus, and many others, are all around us and we're bound to catch it so please don't feel like the facility is failing your mom. Hope she's feeling better soon!
You've not shared if mom is showing any symptoms or not from having Covid. A lot of folks that test positive have nothing more than a runny nose or slight cough. I would just make sure that the assisted living facility is staying on top of her symptoms and are treating them accordingly. Everyone at some point will get Covid, whether they've gotten the shots or not, as it's here to stay just like the flu. Hope she recovers quickly.
The good news is that LONG covid is very rare in seniors. My son-in-laws Mom just had covid with almost no symptoms at all and no after effects at all and she is in her mid 90s. So much depends now on whether your Mom is able to weather the covid. As to what questions? Make certain that her wishes in advanced directive (whether to go to hospital or not) are registered. Ask how often O2 sat is measured. Check on her condition twice daily. Ask to be informed of changes. It is a wait and see. Many very healthy haven't made it through and many with underlying conditions HAVE made it through. Much will depend on luck with this as each of our reactions to covid are as individual as our own fingerprints. I hope your Mom does well and is up and about soon. You may want to ask what medications they are giving her per MD order. It is most likely paxlobid. I don't know if you are her medical POA or not, and am hoping you are; otherwise you are not privy to that info.
I am POA and I was informed they would be giving her Paxlobid. Her current symptoms are minor. I just infuriates me that the policy is to test for COVID at the door until X number of days of No COVID cases. Then they go to No COVID testing at the door until a resident tests positive. Why can’t we just continue testing just because they are a vulnerable population ?
