My dad is disabled and in a wheelchair. He suffered a stroke and is now paralyzed on his right side. I live with him and have been taking care of him for about 9 years now. It is hard for me to work and take care of him. He is currently on Medicaid and Medicare.

Check out FreedomCare. They advertise that they will pay the family member to care for their loved one, if the loved one is on Medicaid.

Yes, it is possible. I became the PCA for my mother through Masshealth. Process for it may have changed or be different in each state.

Ask Medicaid and / or Medicare.
If you have access to an attorney or accountant, ask them.
There are specific rules / laws about this. I believe you can get some financial compensation. Hopefully, some people here will have more specific recommendations than I do. Gena / Touch Matters

All states have IHSS in home support services. because he is on Medicaid he would already be concerned low income. They are usually listed under your county. with a stroke he may need 24/7 care. You should be able to qualify for max hours if not ask why. Also you will never be paid for a full 24 hours any where in the united states. usually its 12 hours per day which includes over time past 8hr. the incentive for a live-in its TAX FREE there should be no state or federal taxes as it is not considered an income for you. You may also qualify for Medicaid as they cant count this as income. check with the IRS 2014-7 this does not including other programs out there that can also help $$$. not sure the state you live in I am in California. yours maybe higher or lower than mine so check it out. the purpose of this program is to help people like your dad be able to live in his home and out of a nursing home. hope this helps.

The OP’s dad is on Medicaid so probably has no $$$ of his own. It would most likely have to be thru Medicaid.

Medicaid can pay you to take care of your father. Since you live with him. I would contact Medicaid and see about this program if your state has it. My state of Iowa does have it.

Another thing to look into ...If your dad is a Veteran the VA can pay family caregivers.
If he is a Veteran contact your local Veterans Assistance Commission and see what benefits he may be entitled to.

Check with his Medicaid Caseworker who should have this idea.
In lieu of that call your local council on aging and ask for guidance on any special programs your state or country may have.
