I’m writing this for myself. My hearing is not the best lately. It is not super bad but lately I cannot hear my youngest granddaughters if they speak in their “indoor” voices and have had to ask them to speak up. I hate feeling like an old lady.
I am leaning toward buying the Apple ear pods 3, an expensive outlay but I think would help for my situation. They are cheaper than good hearing aids. I prefer to start with over the counter assistance first and don’t think I need to spend money on regular hearing aids yet.
Does anyone use them as an audio aid? If so any thoughts or suggestions on some other alternatives?

Don't earbuds need to be bluetoothed to something?

I would first see an audiologist. Find out what type of hearing loss you have and to what extent. Maybe you need an ear cleaning out?

My husband has worn hearing aids since age 4 he is almost 80. He wore analog aids for years. He has never liked the digital, the sound is not true. Meaning, you don't hear people the way they actually sound. I think that is why new wears have trouble getting used to digital.

Years ago my husbands aid died before he was allowed to get a new one. He bought a $15 aid and at that time, it worked for him.

Costco. Good hearing aids at a good price, customer support, etc. You can get models with tiny buds about the size of a pea that fit inside the ear canal. They are attached by a slim threadlike clear plastic tube to a behind-the-ear plastic piece about the size of a cut green bean. Can’t even tell you have them on! Rechargeable overnight in a plastic charger that’s very small. Wake up in the a.m. and put them in, no fuss. Much better and easier than what you’re planning.

Yes, I have a cheap pair that I use for audiobooks sometimes.

I think I’d only be using the AirPods around the grandkids for a few hours a week. I could handle that.

I have to ask you this...Do you currently wear ear buds for other things like the phone or music?
Personally I am dreading the point where I will have to consider something to help my hearing. I can not stand anything in my ears and I have decided that the solution for me would be the hearing aids that do not go in the ear but the sound is conducted through the bone right behind the ear. I have seen them on Amazon for under $300
I hope you find a solution for yourself

My 6 yr old granddaughter was born deaf in one ear. She was wearing the device you described (through an audiologist). It was attached to a headband. She recently got the magnetic implant under her skin so that she doen't need the headband anymore, but the device is pretty large and sticks out from her head (but she's still a little kid). She'll get actual hearing aids once she stops growing. Not sure what the sound quality difference is beween this and standard hearing aids. Maybe ask on a forum to get input. I would also research whether the Amazon ones are good enough or if you should go through an audiologist.
