My mother's Alzheimer's seems to have been progressing very rapidly lately. In February, she could recognize herself and my dad in a family photo, but she didn't remember my brother or me. We have 24/7 care with private-pay caregivers for both Mom and Dad. Recently, Mom has forgotten how to brush her teeth, how to keep clean at the toilet, how to encourage pooping when it doesn't happen on its own, cannot follow step-by-step instructions, and stopped taking her medications. She usually sleeps about 15 to 18 hours per day. Two days ago, the caregiver reported she came out of her room looking for that man. She wandered all through the house continually looking for him. She has not been wandering in the past. Apparently, it was a pleasant experience for her. It would seem if the experience frightened her, she would rather hide than to seek him out. The home-health nurse indicated she has witnessed similar experiences (maybe hallucinations ???) and the patient sometimes dies within the following week or month. Can anyone relate and/or answer my question?
