If your mother is still mobile & wouldn’t walk out & get lost, then keeping her home with you until she needs a higher level of care makes sense. You might want to look into personal home care & supervise until you feel confident…for the time you want to get away from house. Do you work full time? Can you oversee care for your mother? Can your mother go to her dr appointments with you? What are her health issues? Do you administer meds or can she take them herself? Is she a fall risk? When my mother was still walking, & I was working part time, I helped my mother get washed & dressed, made her breakfast & prepared her lunch before I left house. Then I’d call her on my break to remind her about lunch & any meds to take..I’d leave it in little dish…”Now take round red one…” for example. As long as hubby on same page, You can bring her back home! Good luck & hugs 🤗

Focus on the positives of this change. Create a consistent routine for her to meet her needs. Also, make sure to get enough helpers - volunteer and paid - to help our daily/weekly so that you and hubby could take short trips or have help if your own health changes.

You have several compelling reasons for bringing her back home with you. The financial factor does play into these decisions even if we wish it didn’t. First off, paying for services and not getting what you paid for is not acceptable no matter what the service is. The higher the cost the more a consumer has a right to expect. If I hired a lawn care service and they consistently only cut half of the lawn I would not keep paying them. You are right to consider that in the future your mother may need skilled nursing which is even more expensive. Perhaps it makes more financial sense to bring her back to your house now where meals and other care are superior and save her funds for future intense care in a nursing home when/if that is needed. If you can find and hire an aide that she likes to help you for several hours a week even better. And, senior activity centers can help with socialization. Her health, happiness, safety, and financial well being all are major factors to be considered and then do the best that you can do.

UPDATE: I discussed with Mom today and surprisingly she is 100% willing to move back in with us!! She isn’t happy there, and she came up with 10 reasons why she wants to leave. She said it was worth trying, but after 3 months she is convinced this isn’t working out

I’m so relieved and happy!

thank you all for the suggestions and support
